Construction Health & Safety Officer
We are a Construction company based in Kyalaim looking for a responsible Safety Officer to facilitate compliance with occupational health and safety guidelines. You will provide advice on measures to minimize hazards or unhealthy situations. You will also be on a constant lookout for violations.
The ideal candidate will be a responsible individual who swears by the regulations. The ideal candidate will also be detail-oriented and ready to act in emergencies.
The goal is to establish a safe workplace according to legal standards and foster a culture of attention to health and safety.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assess Site Conditions
- Evaluate site safety and environmental requirements
- Prepare complete safety files and ensure they meet legal requirements and client specifications
- Ensure that the company meets legal requirements for site work
- Compile risk assessments and enforce preventative measures
- Ascertain training needs for the site
- Record, investigate and report incidents and IODs
- Implement continuous compliance with HSE Management Plan
- Ensure that provisions and requirements of the contract are understood and adhered to
- Carry out a thorough review of all processes and procedures currently being used and review where improvements could be made to increase efficiency
- Ensure equipment, tools and facilities are inspected and maintained
- Oversee and advise reps during toolbox talks, DTI’s and Risk Assessment
- Attend safety meetings and compliance audits, liaise with clients HSE Departments and Department of Labour Inspectors if necessary
- Correct faults found on compliance audits
- Development of OHS policies and programs
- Duties include but are not limited to the above and will include all other health and safety related duties and responsibilities
Desired Experience & Qualification
Minimum Requirements:
- Grade 12 certificate
- National Diploma in Safety Management or relevant tertiary qualification
- Registration with SACPCMP (non-negotiable)
- Fall Protection Planner
- Risk Assessments
- Working at Heights
- Incident Investigation
- Sound knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act and Construction regulations
- Computer literacy
- Valid Driver’s License
- SA Citizen
- Proficient in English – Speak, read and write
