Construction Health & Safety Officer

We are a Construction company based in Kyalaim looking for a responsible Safety Officer to facilitate compliance with occupational health and safety guidelines. You will provide advice on measures to minimize hazards or unhealthy situations. You will also be on a constant lookout for violations.

The ideal candidate will be a responsible individual who swears by the regulations. The ideal candidate will also be detail-oriented and ready to act in emergencies.

The goal is to establish a safe workplace according to legal standards and foster a culture of attention to health and safety.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assess Site Conditions
  • Evaluate site safety and environmental requirements
  • Prepare complete safety files and ensure they meet legal requirements and client specifications
  • Ensure that the company meets legal requirements for site work
  • Compile risk assessments and enforce preventative measures
  • Ascertain training needs for the site
  • Record, investigate and report incidents and IODs
  • Implement continuous compliance with HSE Management Plan
  • Ensure that provisions and requirements of the contract are understood and adhered to
  • Carry out a thorough review of all processes and procedures currently being used and review where improvements could be made to increase efficiency
  • Ensure equipment, tools and facilities are inspected and maintained
  • Oversee and advise reps during toolbox talks, DTI’s and Risk Assessment
  • Attend safety meetings and compliance audits, liaise with clients HSE Departments and Department of Labour Inspectors if necessary
  • Correct faults found on compliance audits
  • Development of OHS policies and programs
  • Duties include but are not limited to the above and will include all other health and safety related duties and responsibilities

Desired Experience & Qualification

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 certificate
  • National Diploma in Safety Management or relevant tertiary qualification
  • Registration with SACPCMP (non-negotiable)
  • Fall Protection Planner
  • Risk Assessments
  • Working at Heights
  • Incident Investigation
  • Sound knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act and Construction regulations
  • Computer literacy
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • SA Citizen
  • Proficient in English – Speak, read and write
