Environmental Lead (ISO 14001 – Construction – Engineering – Johannesburg
Our international client, operating in the construction/ engineering industry, currently seeks to appoint an experienced Environmental Lead to join their in-demand business based in Johannesburg. In this role, you will be responsible for the company’s environmental strategy and manage environmental, social and governance interventions with its international division.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assess business and operations’ risks regarding environmental impact on the environment.
- Manage interventions with the company’s international division regarding Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG)
- Understand business impact on people, communities, and the environment
- Manage ESG-related policies, processes and documentation to ensure compliance with South African Environmental legislation, ISO 14001 requirements and International Group Standards
- Manage the internal ESG processes and compliance audit program to ensure compliance to ESG requirements
- Identify ESG compliance issues and report against non-compliance/ conformances on the system
- Monitor progress Action Plan of Audit findings
- Responsible for the environmental strategy with focus on water, waste, climate change, biodiversity and ecological impact
- Develop and roll out environmental self-assessments and Environmental Awareness Training Material
- Ensures continuous risk identification, mitigation, and strategic implementation to avoid/reduce implications that could affect reputational damage.
- Provide ESG guidance, support, and training and educates the business on environmental findings and potential impacts and aspects.
- Collecting data from various resources and maintaining a database.
- Regular reporting including submission of monthly reports to Management
- ESG (Carbon Footprint) and Environmental Working Group reporting
- Raises issues that threaten compliance to any standards and regulations.
- Supports the business on all ESG compliance matters particularly where certification is at risk.
- Assesses client feedback reports for satisfaction and areas of improvement.
- Designing and implementing key compliance milestones and KPI’s.
- Initiate and monitor ESG projects.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Environmental bachelor’s degree with professional registration.
- Minimum 3-5 years in environmental management.
